Argo Museum
Competition – City of Volos
The main aspect of the architectural design was to create a passage through the Museum’s building complex similar in concept and spatial drama to Symplegades. The passage’s axis connects the common visitors’ entrance piazza to the Museum and to the neighboring park with the diametrically located bi-fold hydraulic ship-gateway to the Argo hall. The Museum’s volumes are articulated along this spinal entrance axis.
The building’s form is marked by the Argo’s hall volume, a robust and refined structure of reinforced concrete louvers. On either side of the passage and above the entrance area are laid the individual volumes of the Museum’s support facilities with synthetic wood clad facades.
